Keeping
Emotions in Balance.
Balancing
emotions means having Self-Control. Emotions should neither be controlled too
little nor too much.
We
try to control emotions “too much” because we think denial is the best way to
handle emotions.
We
tend to assume that others will think negatively of us. Such denial is
unhealthy and unnatural and has great negative impact on us.
Suppressing
our emotions takes a great deal of energy – the energy then is unavailable for
other more useful purposes like thinking and behaving.
How
to remove those tight controls on emotions---
- Start building self-awareness and then move to self-disclosure.
- Learn to share more of what you think and feel.
- Think of someone your spouse, your trusted friend that you know will not react negatively to your issue.
- Discussing with them will help you to be comfortable and open. This results in better self-control and also will positively impact your relationships with others.
- Suppressing your emotions is the other extreme of letting them get out of control. Neither extreme is good.
- Get fresh air and see the sunlight as much as possible. Notice and appreciate your surroundings.
- Let yourself daydream. Just relax and let your mind wander.
